#ThirstyThursday: Crown Royal Hand Selected Barrel & Northern Harvest Rye

Welcome to #ThirstyThursday, where our resident spirited soldier Ru Porter highlights some of the doper libations to hit the beverage industry. With our thirst for knowledge, our love of food and cocktails, you can count on YouGottaEatThis.com to school you on what to eat and drink at select hang out spots. Up for the second installment are the latest expressions from Crown Royal Canadian Whisky.

Northern Harvest Rye

A brand deeply rooted in heritage and quality, Crown Royal’s first-ever blended rye whisky, Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye, combines the richness of Northern harvest rye grains with the unmistakable smoothness of Crown Royal to create a balanced whisky. The distinct Canadian climate provides the ideal conditions for growing rye grains. This is due to the fact the grains are planted in the fall, then blanketed with snow during the harsh winter months and only finish their growth cycle once they have sprouted throughout spring and summer. The extended maturation period results in flavorful hints of fruit, cloves and spice.

Hand Selected Barrel_2

In contrast, to further diversify their portfolio, a Crown Royal Hand Selected Barrel program was designed to allow  retailers in select markets to purchase an entire barrel of whisky to experience the signature Crown Royal smoothness directly from the single barrel liquid that is produced from the brand’s Coffey Rye Still, the only known still of its kind in North America, located in Gimli, Manitoba.

Each bottle produced from the barrel liquid will feature a personalized medallion denoting the retail location to commemorate the purchase. Both Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye and Hand Selected Barrel include a box and a felt bag, two iconic packaging features consumers have grown to know and love. The former is 90 proof / 45% Alcohol by Volume, and will be sold at a suggested retail price of $29.99 for a 750 mL bottle. Meanwhile, the latter is 103 proof / 51.5% Alcohol by Volume and will be sold at a suggested retail price of $54.99.

How to enjoy: neat, on the rocks, or as the key ingredient in traditional cocktails such as the Manhattan or Old Fashioned.

Food pairings: herb-crusted lamb, steak, pork chops and prosciutto wrapped chicken breasts.

Crown Royal would like you to enjoy responsibly.
