
Simply Simple Syrups for the Summer!!
It’s summertime and we are all in need of some cool refreshment, right?!! I know when you think of refreshing you probably think fruity but there are many herbs that are delicious when mixed with drinks. Try making a fizzy Italian soda or a refreshing gin cooler with your arsenal of homemade simple syrups! They are easy to make and you can add them to just about any beverage to give it a hand-tailored taste!
Let’s start out with:
Simple Syrup #1: Rosemary-Orange
· 1 cup water
· 1 cup sugar
· 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
· Rind of one orange
Simple Syrup #2: Thyme-Lemon
· 1 cup water
· 1 cup sugar
· 3 sprigs thyme
· Rind of one lemon
Simple Syrup #3: Basil-Lime
· 1 cup water
· 1 cup sugar
· 6-7 basil leaves
· Rind of one lime
And now you can get in the game:
For each simple syrup:
Bring the water and sugar to a boil in a small saucepan. Continue to boil until the sugar dissolves completely, stirring occasionally. Put ingredients into the sugar water, turn off and let steep for 30 min to 1 hour. Transfer the syrups to clean glass bottles and refrigerate up to one week.
You can add a little or a lot to club soda or sparkling water (Italian soda) or mix it into your favorite cocktail!
