French Macarons: Ou La La!
Ladurée (Soho location)
Ladurée is the “mothership” of macarons. The house Pastry Chef Pierre Desfontaines has been occasionally credited for creating the macaron as we know it today: two meringues held together by a flavored ganache. If you have been to Paris, you have most likely observed the crowds that populate the famous stores on the Champs-Élyseés or in Saint-Germain-Des-Prés. We actually found a line outside the store on West Broadway in Soho. If you have the patience to wait in line on a warm Sunday afternoon, you will eventually enter the chic patisserie and Louis XV inspired tea room/dining room.
Wear your best clothes if you plan to sit down at one of the tables to sip tea and enjoy Ladurée’s treats. Needless to say, macarons here are “perfection” and flavors are very traditional: Vanille, Café, Caramel A La Fleur De Sel, Framboise, Pistache and even Rose. Ladurée also offers seasonal flavors, depending on the time of the year.
