alFresco’s Restaurant In Winter Garden, FL: Upscale Bistro-Style Dining

In the suburbs of Central Florida, there’s not much to do besides eat – from deli’s, bakeries, fast-food chains and family-owned casual style restaurants. For someone on a budget craving cheap, simple eats the choices are endless. But foodies interested in an upscale, bistro-style dining experience, will have to do a little leg work. So where do you go if don’t want to travel thirty-five minutes to Orlando? You embark on a fifteen minute drive to Winter Garden. 14 miles west of the city lies a hidden gem in a historic downtown location. Enter: alFresco Restaurant – a fusion of Mediterranean, authentic Italian and fresh seafood dishes.

My first visit was about nine months ago when I left my native Brooklyn, NYC to visit some relatives in Clermont. As a person hailing from a large city, I had a hankering for high-quality meals that reminded me of the fine dining spots in West Village. Judging by my surroundings (the city of Clermont resembles the county side of the West Indies) I wasn’t sure that existed. But to my surprise, my mom put me on to alFresco’s and I’ve been visiting since August of 2014.

alFresco’s Restaurant is a quaint establishment; warm and inviting, in an area with a lot of New England charm. The staff is upbeat and super friendly. And the dishes are worth mentioning. What I like about alFresco is the portion sizes. To a foodie, that is king because it allows you the ability to try multiple plates without over-indulging. The presentation is beautiful, and the prices are even more attractive – to this customer “from up north”, as the locals would say.

The appetizers and desserts are all under $12, and the most expensive entrée on the menu is $28. While I have only eaten here for dinner on two occasions, I have yet to be disappointed; and before I return to New York I plan on trying quite a few items from their brunch and lunch menus.

My absolute favorite thing to order at alFresco’s is the calamari. It light and crispy, and the signature basil aioli really sets it off.

The pasta is really fresh too – the lobster ravioli, as well as the braised short rib pappardelle are enough to make me a repeat customer, and the savory meat dishes are fork tender.

When visiting alFresco’s, come for the ambiance. And if you want a mouth-watering eating experience the Pepper crusted Pork Loin with Butter Roasted Potatoes and Cipollini onions is highly recommended.

Your taste buds will thank me later.

alFresco’s Restaurant is located at: 146 W Plant St #140, Winter Garden, FL 34787.
