Hypebeerst: The Pumpkin Beer Summoning

The best part about Shipyard’s Pumpkinhead is the nose. It smells like someone opened a can of pumpkin pie filling then poured it in a light beer. The notes aren’t extremely fragrant, but nice enough to not be overpowering like some others. Pumpkinhead also tastes very light, with the wheat straw, yeast and pumpkin flavors leading the charge in that order. It’s a little more sour and a fair amount less sweet than the majority of the pumpkin beers I have experience with. It doesn’t have TOO much spice, as a little cinnamon / nutmeg hangs out in the finish and lingers on the tongue instead of being the main flavor. Crack a couple of these on the porch while you’re shootin’ the shxt with your drinking buddies so when that one guy nobody ever invites over shows up and starts telling that one Al Bundy-esque high school football story for the 20th time, it’s just a little bit more bearable.
