Hot Tamale Donut – O’Doodle Doo’s Donuts
I’m a fiend for unique food offerings, so when editorial photographer Cristopher Schafer IG’d a photo of a dozen epic ass donuts a while other day I made it my life mission to check the place out. I browsed the shop’s website and saw a listing for a “hot” handmade donut, I knew what had to be done. One weekend I managed to carve out some time in the early AM to drop into O’Doodle Doo’s Donuts in Suffolk, VA to see if I could tame this beast. I’ll save the full workup of their offerings for a later post, but I just had to spill about the Hot Tamale donut I picked up.
As the name infers, this piece of chocolatey heaven has a peppery bite throughout; habanero peppers are used in this thing underneath a chocolate glaze to set your tongue a-tingle. It’s a slow, building burn that is sure to wake you up at bite number one… Office prank anyone?!
