[REVIEW] Chicken & Waffles at Sweet Chick
I’ve been dining in the Northside of Williamsburg for about 10 years. The “new” Bedford Ave was literally only two blocks strong. Nowadays, it’s not only the hipster mecca, but honestly where can you find a NYC location outside of Manhattan with incredible food options, like such? Exactly! No shots at Park Slope or other spots unequally yoked.
Who eats comfort food on a Friday afternoon in the middle of a HEAT WAVE? I do, that’s who. I’m so about that BRUNCH life, even when I’m dead tired from the night before. This time around was a bit different. My foodie ace in crime picked this spot earlier in the week to check out. So, I was down for something new. Truth be said, I’ve been dying to try the chicken and waffles from Buttermilk Channel in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.
Sweet Chick’s chicken and waffles are out of this world. The flavoring of the chicken was seasoned on point. Not just the crunchy skin, but the meat as well. I’m picky when it comes to fried chicken. For one, it’s disrespectful to eat soggy fried chicken and I NEED to taste that love. It’s seriously that simple. The waffles were lightweight. They weren’t doughy or overwhelming. I’ve got a thing for sweet and salty at the same [damn] time. I’m about soaking that chicken skin in syrup. I’m pretty sure, the syrup didn’t have any high fructose corn syrup. The consistency was much lighter in taste and texture and far from thick. Oh, just so you know, the Mac n Cheese will have you talking things out loud without any shame. Yup! It’s that AMAZING! A great perk to this brunch spot is the selection of beers on tap. I tried the Ithaca Flower Power IPA and it’s perfect for hot days.
